Petrol vs Diesel vs CNG: Which Fuel Type Is Right for You?

DealCars Team · Jul 28, 2026
Choosing the right fuel type can save you thousands every year. Here's a simple way to decide. Petrol Best for city drivers who cover under ~40 km a day. Lower upfront price, smoother and quieter, and cheaper to maintain. The trade-off is a higher fuel cost per kilometre. Diesel Makes sense if you drive long distances regularly (highway commutes, outstation trips). Better mileage and strong torque, but a higher purchase price and costlier maintenance. Diesel cars usually pay off only above ~1,500 km a month. CNG The most economical to run, and increasingly popular in cities with good CNG networks. You trade some boot space for the cylinder, and power is slightly lower — but the savings at the pump are hard to beat for high-usage city drivers. The quick rule Low daily running → Petrol. High highway running → Diesel. High city running with CNG stations nearby → CNG. Not sure? Tell us how you drive and we'll help you shortlist the right cars.
